Porcelain Bridges
Another option for replacing missing teeth is a dental bridge, which uses one or more crowns to span the gap between your natural teeth. Usually made of porcelain or zirconia, a bridge is a permanent solution that fits securely over existing teeth. Like implants, bridges restore function and appearance, and may be the best choice depending on your unique needs.
You are a good candidate for a porcelain bridge if:
you lost a tooth or it was never there
you have a complex medical history and you aren’t a candidate for an implant
you have a bony defect and not enough bone for an implant
you have crowns or large fillings in teeth on either side of the missing tooth
What to Expect
2 Appointments
The teeth on either side of the missing tooth (teeth) will be prepared for crowns that have similar line angles. A digital scan will be taken of the teeth to be sent to the dental ceramist for fabrication of the zirconia bridge. A temporary bridge will be fabricated.
Two weeks later you will return for delivery of your bridge. The final bridge will be tried in and will be evaluated for comfort, fit and esthetics. The final bridge will be cemented with permanent resin cement and you will be instructed as to how to clean around and under your new bridge.
